Welcome to Yaxley & Mellis Pre-School
Yaxley & Mellis Pre-School is a committee based charity run setting. We provide a friendly and child centred approach to childcare, based upon a professional, stimulating and loving environment.
Our pre-school is securely located within the grounds of Mellis Primary School and is accessible via the main school gates and through the playground. At Yaxley & Mellis Pre-School we aim to compliment and support the community spirit of the school and we work in close partnership with them to ensure continuity of care and learning for all children. Our leader Allie attends regular meeting with the school headmaster, reception teacher and also a school governor to ensure continuity and smooth transitions for all children. The children aged 3 years and above, have the opportunity to join the reception class children for Friday morning assemblies.
We recruit staff with visions and values similar to our own, as parents in order for us to effectively implement a safe caring environment in order to maintain high standards across the pre-school.
Our environment has been carefully designed to cater for all children’s needs, abilities and individualities, offering choice, independence and freedom allowing children to take a lead role in their own learning and development. With the children’s needs in mind, the toilets, hand basins and coat pegs are all at child height, enabling children to become independent in self-help skills.
We pride ourselves on being an outstanding early years setting, offering only the best learning and play to all children. Our aim being as a pre-school is to encourage children to be independent and to develop their learning senses, whilst increasing self-confidence. We would like all children to enjoy their time with us, be it for only one half-day sessions per week, or for the full sessions each day. We aim to keep all the children happy and stimulated whilst carrying out a wide range of activities which will help them to extend upon their existing knowledge. Are focus is centred on each individual child’s own interests.
The children are included and encouraged to help look after our pets on a daily basis, we have 5 large land snails, fish and stick insects. The children enjoy walks and adventures in the school’s attached nature reserve & woodlands enabling them to explore the wider environment.
The children all join in together with our phonics, shape recognition, number and numeracy activities, and learning from each other. Our silly soup song is very popular with all our children, enabling them to learn and think about words that have similarities, in rhythm and rhyme.
